Our
Story

CarSmart started with a simple goal: to make a bad day—one full of car troubles—just a little bit better. It all began with founder Norman Larsen's knack for fixing things and his love for people. In high school, Norman attended an automotive day at Rick’s College, where he won a scholarship, kicking off a journey that would eventually lead to CarSmart becoming a trusted name right here in Cache Valley.

After working in shops and dreaming of doing his own thing, Norman jumped at the chance to start CarSmart in 2000. It wasn’t just about fixing cars—it was about creating a place where the community felt taken care of. In those early days, CarSmart even gave out free potatoes to some of their first customers. Over the years, the shop expanded, adding locations in Smithfield in 2008 and Hyrum in 2015.

CarSmart has always been a family and community-focused business. Norman’s son, Caden, has been an integral part of the shops for years, working alongside a dedicated team of other skilled technicians who share the same passion for helping people. Together, they bring expertise, care, and a neighborly touch to every repair. For Norman and the team, it’s always been about the people.

The folks at CarSmart are committed to turning those tough breakdowns into an opportunity to help. Whether it’s a quick repair or a longer fix, the team at CarSmart is here to keep you rolling.

At CarSmart, we don’t just fix cars; we build connections. For us, it’s all about neighbors helping neighbors. That’s been our mission from day one, and it’s what drives us every single day.

"Brother Larsen, the shop owner, was getting his boots on. He was completely composed. He brought a certain quiet assurance to the situation. I recall standing in the shop by Brother Larsen's home as he was testing the car, feeling grateful that this situation was being handled the way that it was.

He tested the battery and then the alternator. He informed us that our alternator was dead. He said he would charge the battery overnight, drive the car to his shop in the morning to make the repairs and have it ready by around noon. Then he said he’d lend us a car to use until then.

'What color do you want? Green? Blue?' he asked.

I wasn't sure what to say. 'Any color is fine.'

This stranger offered us one of his personal cars to use. I felt like someone had my back. Someone always has your back. We walked out of the garage, and he brought the vehicle around. I hopped in with the ignition on. Just like that we were taken care of."
